Anatole Chartier is a visual artist and performer. A graduate of the European School of Art in Poitiers–Angoulême, he has developed a practice that combines installation, performance and video.

His works explore the relationship between the body and natural elements—wind, sand, water, gravity—through devices and artefacts he calls "transducers." These narrative and activatable objects question our sensory relationship to the world and are part of narratives linked to collapse and post-collapse.

His work is mainly developed in the context of residencies, research and encounters, where the collective, participatory and ritualistic dimension plays a central role.

He has presented his creations at the Palais de la Porte Dorée (Paris), on the island of Vassivière, at the Abbaye Saint-André (Meymac), at the Villa Beatrix Enea (Anglet) and at the Fondation Martell (Cognac), among other venues. A winner of the ACEAC (Rouen) choreographic incubator, he is currently developing projects that combine visual arts and performance.

Career path & areas of research

Anatole Chartier develops a practice at the crossroads of installation, performance and video, in contexts of residency, research and in situ activation.

His work revolves around low-tech devices and artefacts that he calls transducers, activated by the body and natural elements — wind, sand, gravity, light. These forms produce collective, often ritualised experiences linked to narratives of collapse and post-collapse.

He regularly collaborates with dancers, artisans and residents, developing projects that combine writing, performative activation and transmission.
